With enough rules and regulations set up, we don’t need Jesus. After all, Jesus scares us – he’s so unpredictable, so uncontrollable. Jesus’s operating system – unconditional grace – is wild. It’s unmanageable, uncontainable. It unsettles everything by wrestling control out of our hands, thereby putting us at the mercy of God. So we spend our lives trying to manufacture an existence that we can control.
